About

Bronwyn started her career in journalism as a radio current affairs reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), reporting for the AM, The World Today, and PM programs. During her time at the ABC she also worked as a radio documentary maker for the Background Briefing program.

She left the ABC to spend time travelling overseas, and when she returned to Australia she began working as a video journalist for the international affairs program Dateline on SBS Television Australia. Over the eight years Bronwyn worked for Dateline she travelled to dozens of countries as a solo video journalist: researching, reporting and filming. She reported from Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Eastern Europe, the United States, Africa, and many other places in between. Her stories exposed human rights abuses, the secrets and lies of governments, and the untold lives of ordinary people. In 2003, she was the first journalist ever to gain access to the inside of a refugee detention centre on the remote island of Nauru, her story winning a United Nations Association of Australia Media Peace Award. She also reported extensively on the US counter-terrorism strategy of ‘Extraordinary Rendition’, winning a George Munster Award for her work into the rendition of Mamdouh Habib, an Australian citizen who was held by the US as an enemy combatant.

For the past decade Bronwyn has worked as a freelance journalist and writer, including for the ABC, The Saturday Paper and The Monthly.
